It
all started brightly enough as we assembled at our spiritual home, The
Butchers Arms. (It is now under new management, by the way, and improving
all the time.)
"Sinbad"
manages to chip one straight to the waiting fielder ....
....
whilst his opening partner, Mike Bristow, shows sound defensive technique
(even though the ball had already gone past him).
He
makes up for it by striking this ball handsomely straight.
Meanwhile,
"Curly" pops one up to a fielder who, fortunately, couldn't
quite get to it. (Mind you he did steer one straight to first slip later
in the over.)
Bristow
stands tall and plays this one ... straight to silly mid-off (who still
had an awful lot to do siince the ball was travelling at a rate of knots).
"Bod"
watches this one carefully as the bowler fields off his own bowling.
Bowmer
shapes to launch this one through the covers ....
....
and then glances this one to leg. (I know - we were all as surprised as
you, dear reader!)
Matt
Baker tries to paddle one round the corner. (The only problem was that
the ball went past him on the off side!)
Simon
Fleming manages to squirt this one out to the off side.
The
innings is all over and tea awaits.
