Yes folks, they're finally here - the annual Greens Norton Cricket Club Awards!

There are three awards to be made:

The Batting Award, the Bowling Award and the Clubman of the Year Award.

After extensive discussion and scrutiny by faceless officials at the club the deserving winners were chosen as follows:

The Batsman of the Year Award goes to .... Simon "Sinbad" Horley. There was significant competition this year for this award. For example, Pete Allen scored 281 runs at an average of 25.55; André "Bod" Bodily hit 338 at 26.00: Mike "Brizza" Bristow scored 267 at 20.54 and Neil Taylor scored 326 at 25.08. In the end, however, it was decided to award the trophy to Sinbad for for his 281 runs scored elegantly at an average of 28.10. He was our most consistent batsman over the latter half of the season. Even when he was out it was invariably to an elegant shot.

The Bowler of the Year Award goes to .... Chris Bowmer. Once again there was stiff competition. Mark "Curly" Neil bowled 101 overs and took 17 wickets at a cost of 20.53 each. Neil Taylor took 16 wickets at 13.31 including one performance of 5-24. Dave "Willsy" Wilson bowled 44 overs, which for him is a feat in itself. He took 13 at 10.92, including one "five-for". Then there was Simon Fleming, who toiled away most weeks, ending up with 14 at 29.79. Bod, too, managed one five-for. Finally came Pete Allen. He had his best season with the ball since joining the club. He took 26 wickets at a cost of 13.42 each in his 86 overs. What this picture does not tell is the way he served up some of his best performances in the cup matches. Nowhere was this more true than in the final against Gayton where he produced the best bowling performance of the season. He took 5-10 to ensure we did not need to get a huge total. Now, coming to the winner .... Chris Bowmer has been given the award this year on the strength and consistency of his performances. He bowled almost twice as many overs (178) as anybody else and took almost twice as many wickets (40) as his nearest rival. He took them at a cost per wicket of 14.45. He was the second most economical bowler (at 3.24 runs per over) and managed the commendable feat of taking a five-for three times.

The Clubman of the Year Award .... goes to Pete Allen. Conventionally this award goes to someone for their non-playing contribution to the club - for example, work on the wicket or raising funds and so on. This year it was felt, however, that Pete's allround contribution with bat, ball and availability could not go unrecognised.

So, well done to the winners and to all of the players mentioned in dispatches. You will be contacted shortly by a member of the committee about actually receiving your trophies.
